NOJOS Informed Treatment for Youth with Sexual Behavior Concerns

Specialized Support for Youth and Families

When a child or adolescent engages in problematic sexual behavior, families often experience fear, confusion, shame, and uncertainty about what comes next. At Vibrant Life Therapy, we believe that with appropriate intervention, education, accountability, and support, youth can successfully return to a healthy developmental path.

Our therapists utilize the standards and protocols established by the Utah Network on Juveniles Obtaining Safety (NOJOS), a statewide organization dedicated to the assessment, treatment, and supervision of youth who engage in sexual misconduct or sexually abusive behaviors.

What Is NOJOS?

The Utah Network on Juveniles Obtaining Safety (NOJOS) has been developing and maintaining standards of care for youth with sexual behavior problems since 1987. NOJOS works to ensure that youth receive evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, and ethically sound assessment and treatment services.

NOJOS brings together mental health professionals, treatment providers, probation officers, child welfare professionals, educators, and other stakeholders to promote best practices in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and management of youth who have engaged in sexual misconduct.

Through ongoing training, research review, and collaboration with national organizations such as the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA), NOJOS continually updates its protocols to reflect current evidence-based practices.

Who Can Benefit from NOJOS-Informed Treatment?

NOJOS-informed services may be appropriate for youth who have:

  • Engaged in problematic sexual behaviors
  • Demonstrated sexually reactive behaviors
  • Violated sexual boundaries with peers or siblings
  • Been involved in inappropriate online sexual activity
  • Been referred by juvenile courts, probation, schools, or child welfare agencies
  • Experienced trauma or abuse that may be contributing to concerning behaviors
  • Struggled with impulse control, social skills, emotional regulation, or healthy relationship development

Our goal is not simply to address problematic behaviors, but to understand the factors contributing to those behaviors and help youth develop healthier coping skills, boundaries, empathy, and decision-making abilities.

Our Treatment Approach

At Vibrant Life Therapy, we understand that every youth and family situation is unique. Our NOJOS-informed treatment approach focuses on accountability, safety, healing, skill development, and family involvement.

Treatment may include:

  • Comprehensive clinical assessment
  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Safety planning
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Healthy sexuality education
  • Emotional regulation skill development
  • Empathy and perspective-taking interventions
  • Trauma-informed treatment when appropriate
  • Collaboration with parents, caregivers, schools, probation officers, and other professionals when authorized

We believe that effective treatment addresses the whole person—not just the behavior. By understanding a youth’s emotional, developmental, family, social, and environmental factors, we can create meaningful opportunities for lasting change.

Why Choose a NOJOS-Credentialed Provider?

NOJOS credentials are awarded to providers who have completed specialized training and who adhere to the standards and protocols established by NOJOS and national best-practice guidelines.

Working with a NOJOS-trained provider helps ensure that assessments and treatment recommendations are grounded in current research, ethical practice, and developmentally appropriate interventions. These standards are designed to promote community safety while supporting the rehabilitation and healthy development of youth.

Families, referral sources, and community partners can feel confident knowing that treatment is informed by established protocols recognized throughout Utah.

Our Commitment to Families

We understand that seeking treatment for sexual behavior concerns can feel overwhelming. Families often worry about stigma, judgment, and what the future may hold for their child.

At Vibrant Life Therapy, we approach every youth and family with compassion, respect, and hope. We believe that problematic sexual behavior does not define a young person’s future. With proper support, accountability, and intervention, youth can learn healthier ways of relating to others, repairing harm, and building a positive future.

Our mission is to help youth develop the skills, insight, and resilience needed to move forward safely and successfully while providing families with guidance, education, and support throughout the process.
